This Indenture made this Twenty-fourth
day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirteen between SARAH ORGAN,
widow of SAMUEL ORGAN, deceased, JOHN ORGAN, ENOCH ORGAN, WILLIAM DUDLEY &
Charlotte, his wife, *late CHARLOTTE ORGAN, MORDECAI GILBERT and Mildred, his
wife, *late MILDRED ORGAN, WILLIAM C. DOBSON and Elizabeth, his wife, *late
ELIZABETH ORGAN, of the County of Campbell, and ENOS ORGAN and ROBERT ORGAN, of
the County of Bedford, and PETER GILL and SELEY, his wife, *late SELEY ORGAN,
of the County of Halifax and State of Virginia, and CORNELIUS ORGAN, SIMPSON
ORGAN, ROUGHLY ORGAN and BENNET ORGAN of the County of Wilson and State of
Tennessee, Heirs and Legatees of SAMUEL ORGAN, deceased, of the one part and
AZARIAH MOORE of the County of Halifax, State of Virginia, of the other part:
WITNESSETH that the aforesaid mentioned widow and legatees for and in consideration
of the sum of four hundred dollars, current money of Virginia, to them in hand
paid, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath given, granted,
bargained and sold and by these presents doth give, grant, bargain, sell,
release and confirm unto the said AZARIAH MOORE one certain tract of land lying
and being in the County of Halifax and on the headwaters of Brush Creek and
containing One Hundred Sixty-five acres be the same, more or less, adjoining
the lands of ROBERT MONTGOMERY, MICAJAH WIATT, ELICE WIATT and others.
To have and to hold the aforesaid land and Premises and all the appurtenances
thereunto belonging clear of all encumbrances to the said AZARIAH MOORE and the
aforesaid mentioned widow and legatees shall and will forever warrant and defend
the aforesaid land and appurtenances to him the said AZARIAH MOORE and his
successors.
In Witness Whereof, they the said widow and legatees have hereunto set their
hands and seals the day and date above written.

April Court 1813
At a court held for Halifax County, the 26th day of April 1813, the within
written Indenture was proven by the oath of three witnesses thereto subscribed
to be the act and deed of the within mentioned SARY ORGAN, JOHN ORGAN, ENOUCH
ORGAN, RAWLEY ORGAN, ENOS ORGAN, MORDICAI GILBERT, ROBERT ORGAN, MILDRED ORGAN,
SHARLOT DUDLEY, WILLIAM DUDLEY, ELIZABETH DOBSON, WILLIAM C. DOBSON, PETER
GILL, SELEY GILL, parties thereto and ordered to be Recorded.

term “late” as used above with the daughters of Samuel Organ means they were
“formerly” Charlotte Organ, Mildred Organ, etc. It does not mean that they were
deceased. “Mildred” was actually named
Melinda not Mildred.)
