Mrs. Amanda Caroline Douglas
With
the passing Tuesday afternoon (24 Jan 1950) in Sherman hospital of Mrs. AMANDA CAROLINE DOUGLAS, this community lost another
pioneer citizen who had been a resident here for 58 years. Funeral services
were held at the First Christian Church Wednesday afternoon at three
o'clock,
conducted by the pastor, Rev. D.A.Holt, and assisted by Rev. Newman McLarry and
Rev. H.F.Mayo. Active Pallbearers were Tom Pollard, Fulton Emerson, Andrey
Edwards, Offie W. Smith, Floyd Carter and Stone Marshall, Jr. Interment was in
the Van Alstyne City Cemetery. A large crowd of sorrowing friends attended the
services to pay their last respects to this pioneer mother.
Mrs. DOUGLAS was born in Tennessee on August
22, 1869,
the daughter of JOHN and JANE DENTON HUCKABY. She is survived by her husband,
WILL DOUGLAS; by five daughters: MRS. GARVIN COTTEN of Van Alstyne Mrs.
W.G.HOGAN of Sherman, Mrs. B.G.WHITT of Colbert, Oklahoma, Mrs. BILLIE IRELAND
of Dallas, and Mrs. VIDA JOHNSTON of Wichita Falls; by one son, GLENN DOUGLAS
of Van Alstyne; by two sisters: MRS. IDA RITTER of Yuma, Arizona, and Mrs. Al
DRAIN of McKinney; by two brothers, WILL HUCKABY of Pasadena, Texas, and JOHN
HUCKABY of Henrietta, Texas; also by seven grandchildren and one great
grandchild.
