   Mary House Carson, daughter of James Sylvester and Erin (Meredith) House, was born January 26, 1909, in Appleton City.  She passed away July 17, 2003, at Ellett Memorial Hospital in Appleton City at 94 years of age.
    Mary attended Cottey College in Nevada, Stephens College in Columbia and earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas University at Lawrence, Kan.  She worked for the Gas Service Company for a short period of time.  Mary and Robert B. Carson II were united in marriage and to this union one son was born.  Mrs. Carson taught school in Windsor in 1953 and taught at Washington High School in Kansas City, Kan., from 1954 until 1957.   She worked for the state of Kansas as a nutritionist in 1957 and 1958 and later was employed by the Shawnee Mission School system until her retirement in 1974.   Mary was a member of Stephens Club and had been a member of P.E.O. for over 50 years.   She loved jazz music and had enjoyed traveling with her husband to Chicago to hear jazz groups.   Mary loved her work and animals.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1951.
    Survivors include her son, Bob Carson, of Appleton City; two granddaughters, Lee Carson and Meredith Carson, both of Tuscon, Ariz.; two great grandchildren, Shawn Jones and Wendy Jones of Nevada, MO; and cousins, Terry and Chuck House of the Kansas City area.
    Services were held at Hill and Son Funeral Home, Appleton City, Saturday, July 19, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Wilbur Zink officiating.  Interment was in Appleton City Cemetery.
    Memorial contributions are suggested to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
