Harvey M. Carson

Harvey M. Carson, 88, Rossville, Rt 1, died at 6:15 PM yesterday in Home Hospital , Lafayette , after a short illness.   

A retired farmer, he lived in Indiana until 1929, when he moved to Los Angeles .  In 1939, he moved back to Clinton County .   He belonged to Rossville Masonic Lodge No. 318 and was a member of the Rossville Presbyterian Church.

He was born in Clinton County on Jan. 19, 1892, the son of John and Amanda (German) Carson.  On Aug. 6, 1914, he married Mabel Clauser and she survives.   Other survivors include two sons, John C. of Lexington , SC., and Durward D. of Los Angeles; a daughter, June Savory, of Rossville; a sister, Anna Clauser, of Rossville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home, Rossville.  The Rev. Tom Thomas will officiate.   Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery . 


John C. Carson

Former Clinton County resident John C. Carson, 69, died Dec. 26, 1984, in Lexington , South Carolina .  

Mr. Carson was retired from the U.S. Army and had taught school for several years.  

He was born in Rossville and had lived in Lexington many years.  He served in England during World War II.  

Survivors include his wife, the former Joyce Taylor; two sons, Maj. John C. Carson of Frankfurt , Germany , and Robert Carson of Lexington; his mother, Mabel M. Carson of Rossville; a sister, June Savory of Rossville, and two grandchildren.  

Services will be in Lexington .


Durward D. Carson

 Rossville Native, Durward D. Carson, 63, died Wednesday evening in Los Angeles after a lengthy illness.  

He worked for Smith-Victor Corporation.   He had also worked for the Craig Corporation.  He was a veteran of World War II.  

He was born in Rossville to Harvey M. and Mabel M. Carson, but lived in Los Angeles for many years.  In 1941 he married Alleen Langford, who survives.  

Also surviving are his mother of Rossville; a son, Chad Carson, and a daughter,  Dureen (Mrs. Gary) Zinn, both of California ; a brother, John C. Carson of Lexington , S.C., a sister, June Savory of Rossville and four grandchildren.

Services will be Monday in Los Angeles .

ROSSVILLE:  Cora June Savory, 78, of Rossville, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at her residence.  Born April 2, 1927, in Rossville, she was a 1944 graduate of Rossville High School and had been a resident since 1949.   She had previously lived in Dayton, Ohio, and Long Island, NY.

She married William "Bill" Savory on Jan 19, 1946, in Richmond, Indiana, and he survives.

Mrs. Savory retired from the Kent Ryan Law Office and had previously been employed as personnel manager with Del Monte Foods in Frankfort.  She had also worked in Dr. Fred Flora's office for 2 years and managed the Selective Service office in Frankfort.

She was a member of Rossville Presbyterian Church, where she taught the "Golden Cheer", and was also involved in the Youth Fellowship of the church and church choir along with her husband.  She was a former Girl Scout leader and also served as former president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rossville Present Day Ladies Group.

Surviving with her husband are two daughters, Kathy Gilpin (husband: Paul) of Brimfield, Ill., and Lynn Barnhart (husband: Jim) of Tullahoma, Tenn.
