The Baby Shoes
were found back inside an antique dresser. The dresser
was owned by
Joseph C. Burke and his wife, Frances Ward Burke. It was well built of
walnut and
may have been made in the cabinet shop of John Henry Burke,
a cabinet maker.
It was one of the few luxuries Frances allowed herself when she moved the
family from North Carolina to Alabama after Joseph's death.
The family
owned property of over 200 acres in Opelika, Alabama, until the mid 1950's.
The antique shaving mug was also part of the Burke
family treasures.
